Since our establishment by a charter of the City of Gainesville, Florida in 1966, the Gainesville Housing Authority has been committed to advocating for and providing affordable housing for eligible individuals and families. The GHA works closely with the U.S. Department of HUD, the City of Gainesville, and area agencies and organizations. Our collaborations allow us to provide many services and opportunities to not only our residents, but to the entire community. The GHA owns and operates eight (8) Public Housing properties (635 units), one (1) Multi-Family “Section 8 New Construction” property (101 units), and administers 1,457 Section 8 vouchers, 170 HUD VASH vouchers, 9 Path vouchers, and 16 Shelter Plus Grant vouchers. In addition to operating a Job Training & Entrepreneurial program for our Public Housing residents and Section 8 participants.
The Board of Directors consists of five members who are appointed by the Mayor. These 5 members, generally, have a strong record of success in private and public sector processes.
